Mussels & Fries- 1) get 2#s of fresh mussels in the grocery store. If you can get them bulk, that much better. They come usually in a net sack of about 2# in the seafood area 2) 1 package of Oreda fast-food frozen fries ( I know, I know)
Pick through mussels in cold water in a strainer ( cold) Heat a dutch oven on top of the stove with about 1 1/2 cups cheap white wine, 4- minced garlic cloves, and 1/2 stick of butter. Get this just melting- Follow the heating direction on the fries package ( oven) and cook the fries 8 minutes. After 8 minutes, pull pan shake a bit and salt return to oven for another 8 minutes- At this point get the mussel pan heated up to almost a boil. Pop the mussels in and give it a good shake, COVER, REDUCE to simmer or real low. At about 5 minutes the mussels should be done( open) as well as the fries. Hints: keep checking the fries throughout the 9 minutes, they should be good & brown, some even a little crisp on the ends. They stay hot, so remove and wait on the mussels if needed-
Costs about 10 clams ( dollars) for the dinner not including the wine- I have substituted a can of Bud or such for the wine, but wine is better-

Think I will try the recipe here. Sounds great. But in Denmark it may be difficult to get the fresh mussels, so I had to be satisfied with the frozen mussels.

Oh what a fancy avatar figure you have chosen. I think the small smiley-fellows are so cute... But unfortunately my Danish friends, who are interested in food recipes do not write and read English - well and you American here do not speak Danish, so I don't think I will invite my Danish friends. Cool we must have some discussion about BEER from lots of countries. Hope you saw my recipe about "Gloegg" the Swedish - Danish HOT and STRONG DRINK. (Message in "Ethnic, Danish" posts). It have a VERY VERY STRONG TASTE with schnaps / aquavit "and a little taste of turpentine" LOL Bridget
