One of my favorite places to eat Chili is at Fred Red's in Joplin, MO. Yeah, it is about 600 miles from me but I have been lucky enough to eat at this little hole in the wall on Main St. 3 times. Nothing fancy and you have to eat at a bar, but the service is fast and friendly. They have been in business since the 20's
They are actually famous for their Spagetti Red. It is spagetti topped with chili and pickles onions on the side. Guests sprinkle parmesan on top. I haven't tried this one yet, but may the next time I am there. I am a firm believer in "if it ain't broke to fix it". Just bring me a bowl of plain chili - no beans. With all of their chili dishes they serve their tradmark of warm saltines.
If you are ever in the Joplin area, I recommend you try this landmark place at least once.
