What are your favorite dishes to take on a picnic? I'm sure everyone has an interesting take on what the perfect picnic should be.

Hi Debbie: Picnics are populare in Denmark in the Summertime. But even it is sunshine we always had to remember our umbrella because suddenly the rain might come. So is the Danish Summer wheather. Great you ask the question about picnics because I have just added some recipes to the special category under the ethnic foods for traditionally Danish recipes. It is some recipes of the traditional "Danish open sandwiches". To this food I very highly can recommend to drink cold BEER. Think you have great beer in the US, (drank some when I was in Manhattan). US beer is just as great as the Danish Hoff Carlsberg or the Gold / Green Tuborg I preferre. THE DANISH OPEN SANDWICHES are perfect for a picnic in the wood or at the beach, I think. cheers In Danish: skaal! In German: prost! BON APPETITE and a happy picnic. Hi Bridget,
I looked at your open sandwich recipes. I think the shrimp or shrimp and egg one would be splendid for a picnic. These kind of recipes can be fun because you can be creative with them depending on your personal tastes.
What is the proper way to eat your open face sandwich. Do you just pick it up and eat it or do you plate it and use a fork and knife?
American open face sandwiches are not suitable for picnics as they are served hot with meat, mashed potatos and smothered in gravy, requiring a knife and fork.
Thanks for sharing your ideas. I think picnics can be more fun when we try new things and include a fun activity.
Debbie

Fork and knife are used when you are sitting inside in your home eating at a table with some guests. At my job at a library we have a room for eating, here we use just to pick the sandwich up with the fingers and eat. There are no specials rules. Bridget

Thanks. It's interesting the different ways around the world. I've heard my husband talk about when he was stationed in Germany that it was considered rude to ask for seconds. Here it is a compliment.

One of the things I like to do on a picnic is fly kites or go fishing. I used to like to play Frisbee but my knees won't let me chase it anymore. I used to take picnic meals to the Drive In Theater. There actually are still Drive In's around. We have one near us and went last summer. Still fun but you use your car radio instead of the tin can speakers. Ha. Check to see if there is a Drive In Theater near you at www.driveintheater.com/. Maybe you can have a nostalgic evening to remember.

He did not got his cheeseburger this day, because it was bad wheater. You see he could not hold both his umbrella and the burger in his hands, it was too complicated. LOL. I took this photo and minutes after it was raining and we all had to go inside. So picnics often are in Denmark. You always had both sun glasses and umbrella by your site. Hi Debbie: Thank you so much for bringing my pictures here at the messages board. Bridget
