Beef Patties with Onions. Serves 4.
1 lb. ground beef 2 tbsp. butter 2 large onions, sliced 2tbsp. flour 1 cup / 8 fl.oz. potato water or water 1 cup / 8 fl.oz. milk salt and pepper
Form the meat into 4 patties. Brown half of the fat in a pan and fry the onions. Set aside. Add the rest of the fat to the pan and heat until golden. Brown the patties on both sides, lower the temperature, and fry until done, about 3 minutes each side. Remove the patties from the pan and set aside. Stir the flour into the fat and cook until well browned, scraping in all the sediment. Gradually stir in the milk and then the potato water / water until the gravy reaches the right consistency. Remember, gravy is always thickened after being removed from the heat. A few drops of gravy browning or soy sauce may be added for additional color. Season with salt and pepper. Arrange the onions rings on top of the patties and serve with boiled potatoes and cucumber salad. Serve the gravy separately.

Bridget, this sounds really good. I just printed it out. I'll try it tomorrow. Do you put sour cream & cayenne pepper in your cucumber salad? I do, it's great. Post your and I'll post mine. Carlene (Debbie's Mom)

Ok, Bridget, I made your beef and onions for lunch today and we loved it. There's nothing my husband likes better than meat and potatoes. So add the onions and gravy and he's a happy camper. Thanks for posting it. C.

Thanks for posting it. C. Hello Carlene: I'm so glad that you and your husband liked the meal. In fact meat and potatoes always are used as basic products in the Danish dinner. Then you may add different vegetables or sauces. Bridget

Carlene (Debbie's Mom) Hello Carlene: Sorry for the delay, but just now I saw your message. No, I don't put sour cream & cayenne pepper in the cucumber salad. I use an oldfashioned kind of cucumber salad (my mother and grandmother used it, too). I put slives of cucumber in a pickle of salt and vinegear, thats all. Then I take the cucumber slives out of the pickle and used it. But it sounds fine with the sour cream I think. I think my husband would like the cayenne pepper, he likes strong spices. Bridget
